This passive solar addition in Salmon Creek included: -Cotton insulation from Bonded Logic.com: R-19 in the walls and R-32 in the ceiling. Installer friendly, non fiberglass and equally thermal, this insulation is now available at OrganicGrace.com in Garberville, California. -Low-E Milgard Windows for reduction of summer heat gain and reduction of UV fading. -Monterey pine 2x6 T&G ceiling/decking from 25 year old (12-22" butt diameter) trees that were thinned for fire hazard reduction and overcrowding. Milled on site in June, kilned in July by Specialized Woodworks in Redway, California and moulded in August by Whitethorn Construction in Whitethorn, California, the boards were stable, plainly colored and more durable then commercially available hemlock fir. -Monterey pine poles and half poles used for interior supports and railings from fire hazard reduction tree clearance. Each one, a unique and special tree, pealed, power washed and linseed oiled as a plain sealer. -Recycled aluminum shingle roofing from Zappone.com. Made new from recycled aluminum stock, the shingles are light weight, interlocking, windproof, fire resistant and recyclable after the 50 year warrantee with no dump fee. Made without petroleum and it comes in assorted colors. |
